Project powered by SourceLink model moves forward
April 18, 2008...Through the efforts of U.S. Congressmen Emanuel Cleaver II (MO-05) and Dennis Moore (KS-03), the SourceLink model will power a pilot project, Vet Link, to connect veterans’ services in the Kansas City region.
Vet Link will identify and organize community resources for veterans into a user-friendly database. The program will be administered by UMKC through KCSourceLink, with plans to expand to the model to a nationwide network of veterans’ services.
KCSourceLink connects a network of more than 140 business development organizations in the 18-country Kansas City region, all for the sole purpose of putting business owners in touch with the resources they need and tracking the economic impact those services deliver.
Known nationwide as SourceLink, that model has travelled the country to the state of Kansas, and the cities of Toledo, Ohio, Charlotte, North Carolina, and, most recently to the West Alabama-East Mississippi region. Through the Economic Empowerment Centers, the model has been adopted to aid minority entrepreneurs in Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Florida and Atlanta.
KCSourceLink was recognized in 2007 with the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration’s national Excellence in Economic Development Award in the category of Enhancing Regional Competitiveness. The program also earned IEDC (International Economic Development Council) Multi-Year Economic Development Programs Award.
